SELANGAU: Victims of a longhouse fire here received relief assistance worth RM18,000 from Native Laws and Customs Assistant Minister Datuk John Sikie Tayai on Monday (July 20).
The assistance was handed over by the assistant minister himself when visiting the fire victims of Rh Lanting Depong, Nanga Gun in Ulu Sungai Arip here.
The 18-door longhouse was razed on Saturday night (July 18), leaving 135 residents homeless.
Sikie, who is also the Kakus assemblyman, expressed his sympathy for the fire victims and announced he would contribute some allocations for the construction of a new longhouse later on.
He requested the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of the longhouse to update the longhouse profile and send it to Selangau District Office to facilitate the channelling of aid including housing loan applications from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Those who wish to offer donations are requested to contact the Selangau District Office, Kakus Service Centre or directly contact the JKKK of Rh Lanting.
