MIRI: A teacher at a religious school has been arrested to facilitate police investigation into a molest incident.
He was nabbed after a police report was lodged by a 16-year-old male student.
Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed that the 35-year-old suspect was apprehended yesterday in Bintulu.
A team of Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers went to Bintulu after receiving a tip-off on the suspect’s whereabouts.
The incident allegedly occurred at a school in Batu Niah near here.
“The student claimed that the incident occurred inside the suspect’s office,” said ACP Lim.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
