MIRI: The body of a barge crew who fell into the Baram River here last Sunday was found yesterday morning.

Zone 6 Fire and Rescue Department Head (JBPM), Law Poh Kiong said the body of the victim, Suhaili Jali, 54, was found floating near a barge where he worked at 11.22am.

He added that Suhaili’s body was found after the barge was removed.

“Suhaili’s body was then handed over to the police for their further action,” he said.

Law said the search and rescue (SAR) team involved were from Bomba, police and Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) had conducted the search operation starting 7am after receiving a report from the public.

Suhaili’s colleagues tried looking for him from 8am to 6pm since Monday but failed.

The last time they saw him around 8pm on Sunday when Suhaili went out with a colleague for dinner.

He is believed to have fallen into the river while walking on a log connecting the barge to the river bank.
