KUCHING: Sarawak is making remarkable progress in its fight against climate change and global warming compared to other states in the country and other countries in Southeast Asia.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg highlighted this achievement in his Sarawak Day 2023 message while discussing the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

The strategy, Premier said, aimed to boost the state’s economy, promote social inclusion and ensure environmental sustainability.

By 2030, Sarawak is striving to become a high-income and developed state.

To achieve these goals, Sarawak is exploring various potential resources. The focus lies on developing the hydrogen economy, harnessing renewable energy sources like hydropower, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from algae, solar energy, carbon trading, and Carbon Capture Utilisation (CCUS).

These efforts align well with the 2015 Paris Agreement, a global initiative to combat climate change, Premier said.

Abang Johari also called for unity among the multi-racial and religious communities.

He said that progress and prosperity could only be achieved in a peaceful and harmonious environment with political and social stability.

Abang Johari also urged everyone to remember and appreciate the struggles and sacrifices of past leaders. It was their determination and fight against colonialism that led to Sarawak’s self-governance 60 years ago.

He highlighted the ongoing spirit of unity and effort among the current leaders and people to build a better future for the next generation, guided by the principle of “Segulai, Sejalai” (Together, We Progress).
