KUCHING: Anyone suffering from eczema (a type of skin disease) can go to Jom Pharmacy at CityOne Megamall to consult pharmacists on how to manage the disease, said Remdii chief scientist Professor Dr Lai Oi Ming.

Dr Lai made the call last Saturday at CityOne Megamall here where she said that the Remdii Sensitive cream sold under Lipidware Sdn Bhd wasvery effective in the treatment of eczema compared to other creams.

Remdii Health and Skincare has collaborated with Jom Pharmacy which will be selling all the Remdii products. The pharmacists there are well trained in dealing with eczema.

“Lipidware Sdn Bhd is a start-up of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Hence, the product is also an university research product,” Dr Lai said in an interview at CityOne Megamall last Saturday.

She added that she ventured into the skin disease research because of her son who was suffering from severe eczema.

Dr Lai also said that there are other cream products to treat eczema and are applied only to the dermis (top) layer of the skin but with the Remdii Sensitive cream, the anti-inflammatory bio-actives in the cream can go down into the dermis layer of the skin and reduce the inflammation at the source.

“So, we are using more or less a pharmaceutical drug delivery sort of technique for the cream,” she said.

There are about 1,000 eczema cases which have been treated successfully and Remdii wants to continue the trend by informing the public about the skin disease and how it can be treated.

Dr Lai also noted that the Malaysia Eczema Support Community (MESC) is a good platform on Facebook to reach out to by all eczema sufferers in Malaysia.

The support group is based on science while other support groups are based on stereotypes and others.

“We also have medical doctors on board in the support group as advisors. Thus, our main knowledge is power and we want all mothers out there with children that they must know what to do without blindly following what others tell them to do,” she said.

Eczema sufferers in Malaysia are welcomed to join the support group in Facebook because they can actually get useful information from medical doctors in the group.
