KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu hopes the 2021 Budget will include assistance for farmers.

He said farmers needed help because of increasing input prices and declining commodity prices.

He said the 2021 Budget should also cover all strata of the Malaysian population, including youth.

“In view of the current Covid-19 pandemic, the budget should focus on economic recovery.

“This should also cover developmental expenditure for committed and ongoing government projects,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune on Sunday (Nov 1).

The Layar assemblyman said the recovery budget must also include recapitalisation of businesses through loans and grants.

“This is particularly for small and medium industries, retraining and re-equipping workers and entrepreneurs,” he added.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will table the 2021 Budget.

He revealed, on Oct 30, that the budget would provide allocations to curb the spread of Covid-19 as the government stepped up its battle against the pandemic.

The prime minister said the government would spell out additional measures in the budget as part of efforts to bring the people’s lives back to normalcy.
