CHRISTOPHER Gira Sambang  (GPS-Tamin) hopes that more development projects will be carried out in the Tamin constituency.

Apart from the abandoned Mini Sport Complex Selangau project, he appealed for swift approval of other Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) such as the construction of futsal fields and multipurpose halls.

He also requested for the construction of basic utilities and supplies to be provided in the area for the convenience of the dwellers.

“I would like to make a request to the state government for infrastructure development such as roads and bridges in Tamin, including the upgrade of the abandoned logging road from Ng Sekuau to Ng Bunau Oya, Selangau, and from Ng Kua to Ulu Mukah, as well as the Jalan Sapudun Tanjong Taroh Selangau logging road.

“Apart from that, we need to upgrade the gravel road of Jalan Ng Tajam Batang Oya and Jalan Igu Tamin, Selangau.

“Additional allocation for the implementation of water supply projects is also needed to upgrade the Stapang Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and the Selangau WTP, as well as for the laying of pipes in designated areas,” he said.

Gira said this in support of the Supply Bill (2023) and motion to refer the Resolution of the Development Expenditure Budget for 2023 on the fourth day of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) session on yesterday (Nov 24).

On the same note, he said necessary action was needed to expedite the abandoned construction and completion of the rural electricity supply (RES) Phase 3 last mile in Selangau along Jalan Ng Kua and Jalan Ulu Mukah.

“There are currently only 27 telco towers in Tamin which has led to poor or slow internet coverage in the rural areas of the town.

“As we focus on moving to a digital economy, I request funds for the construction of additional telco towers for better internet coverage.”

He also urged to improve dilapidated schools in the area which includes Sk Ng Arau, Ulu Mukah; Sk Sg Pelugau, Selangau; Sk Sg Buloh, Selangau; Sk Ng Selangau; Sk Ng Kua, Selangau; Sk St Mark; Sk St Mathew; Sk Sebentik; and SMK Ulu Balingian.

Aside from the schools’ construction, he sought funds for the construction of a new Selangau Education Office as well as the establishment of Selangau New Township in the future.

As there is no facility to store or preserve agricultural products at the moment, he also requested the establishment of a collection centre in the constituency.
