KUCHING: Two needy families received contributions facilitated by Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.

Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, witnessed the handover of the contribution to the family. The contributions were in a form of food items, baby formulas, baby items and essentials for the family.

A mother of two children, Normala Omar, 31, originally from Sarikei, moved to Kuching to work as a waitress to support her family.

She said since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, she had no work. She and her family have lived in a rented house for about three months.

“It is hard as I cannot find work at all to support my family. The only one working is my husband who is a construction worker.

“I am really thankful for the contribution given to my family, which at least puts me at ease and able to feed my children, especially the young ones,” she added.

MPP councilor Amy Tnay said a neighbour had contacted her about the living condition of Normala and her family.

“The neighbour reached out to me about Normala and we reached out to her and tell her that we will arrange essential items for the family.

Lo expressed his gratitude to Voon and also to his councillor for the contributions and assisting the family.

“I am very happy that there are people who are willing to contribute and help the needy during these trying times.

“There are still more unfortunate people here that needed help, so I encourage those who can to donate, whether it is big or small, it would be meaningful to the needy,” said the assemblyman.

Earlier, Lo was also present to witness the handover of hearing aid to Nurtang Lenna, 34, at Taman Flora, Jalan Arang 15C today.

According to Nurtang’s mother Susie Ngui, 65, her daughter had hearing impairment when she was four years old.

JKKK Batu3-6 Kuching general secretary Gerald Goh said Susie had approached Lo for assistance to make new hearing aid for her daughter.

“We held a fundraising campaign among ourselves and the leaders in the Batu Kitang constituency and managed to come up with RM1,050,” said Gerald.

Lo topped up the amount needed to make new hearing aid for Nurtang.

“This afternoon, I am glad that Nurtang finally received her new hearing aid thanks to the members of JKKK Batu 3-6 Kuching. This makes the family happy.

“Again, to all people out there, I want to encourage everyone to look out after each other, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Also present at the event were Penghulu Thian Sing Hwa and Kapitan Kuan Ted Chai.
