MIRI: A total of RM45,000 in minor rural project (MRP) grants were disbursed to six recipients in Kakus state constituency on Saturday (Oct 16).

The recipients were village development and security committees (JKKKs) of Rumah (Rh) Siong Sampau, Sungai Bawang Selangau; Rh Rampai Anjai; Rh Badie Ujan and the Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) from three primary schools — namely SK Sungai Anak Selangau; SK Sungai Tau and SK Iban Union.

Assistant Minister of Native Laws and Customs Datuk John Sikie Tayai cum Kakus assemblyman presented the cheques to the recipients at a ceremony held in Rh Rampai Anjai, Ulu Bawang Selangau.

He said the allocations given to the school PTAs could be used to purchase hand sanitisers and face masks for the students as schools were re-opening.

Sikie assured that the Sarawak government was committed to improve digital connectivity in the rural areas, by building more telecommunication towers.

“As been announced recently, the State government would build some 300 telco towers to improve the telecommunication services especially in the rural areas,” he said.
