LONG LAMA: In conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration on Feb 12, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau went on the ground to distribute CNY greeting cards from the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to the Chinese community in Pekan Long Lama here recently.

Going from door to door, he distributed the cards to nearly 30 owners of premises and shops throughout Pekan Long Lama who were thrilled to be given the greeting cards and expressed gratitude for the meaningful gesture.

Dennis said this year, Pekan Long lama was supposed to hold a massive CNY celebration like the previous year before the Covid-19 pandemic hits the state.

Every year, the assemblyman would visit the homes of Chinese families in Long Lama who hold open house in conjunction with the CNY celebration.

“However that does not seem possible anymore following the spread of the virus throughout the state,” he said.

During the distribution of CNY greeting cards, Dennis took the opportunity to wish a happy CNY to the Chinese community and reminded them to observe all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government.

“This year’s celebration may not be as lively as in the previous years due to the fear of the population against infection by the virus that are becoming more and more contagious up to the interior of Sarawak including Ulu Baram,” he said.

He also reminded the local community to not hold gatherings during this year’s celebration for the safety of everyone.
