Rep hands over special boat licence to local fishermen

LUNDU: The special boat licence (Lesen Sampan Khas) has been approved for 37 fishermen from Sematan district this year.

The licence was handed to them by Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu during a presentation ceremony held here on Thursday (Oct 28).

During the ceremony, the Sarawak Marine Fisheries Department also presented fishing navigation equipment in the form of echo sounder and net hauler worth over RM41,200 to 31 eligible local fishermen.

The recipients for equipment assistance under the department’s Food Security Fund project comprised fishing community from Sampadi, Sematan and Lundu.

“The assistance worth over RM105,800 has been approved and the three communities will be receiving fishery equipment which they applied for the purpose improving their production. The recipients comprised entrepreneurs of downstream fishery products and fishmongers.

In the aquaculture expansion sector, assistance worth RM119,000 in the form of aquaculture equipment for shrimp farming and fish farming in cages were handed over to seven recipients.

Two others received assistance worth RM89,920 under the ‘Projek Pengembangan Hatcheri Bagi Pembangunan Industri Akuakultur’ in the form of mangrove crab hatchery equipment and shrimp seed breeding handling equipment.

An assistance worth RM10,000 was also given to a guidance participant from the department who is working on a fish handling project in the area.
