Rep hopes Tau Pelepek Uman celebration will be preserved

KUCHING: Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai hopes that the Tau Pelepek Uman or Tau Pelepek Ajau celebration will be continued and preserved.

According to him, the Tau Pelepek Uman or Tau Pelepek Ajau is a celebration of gratitude of the Kenyah Uma Baha ethnic tribe at the end of the paddy harvest.

He said that the celebration was also celebrated to seek blessings before starting the opening of a new hill paddy (padi huma) farm.

“Thank God that we are able to celebrate Tau Pelepek Uman 2022 together this year after two years of not being able to celebrate it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I hope that the customs, culture and arts that we have will continue to be preserved as it shows that we celebrate the diversity of our races in Sarawak together with the multi-ethnic groups here,” he said when attending the Tau Pelepek Uman 2022 organised by Uma Baha KLM Block at at Uma Baha Apau Koyan on June 1.

Meanwhile, during the closing ceremony of Ramai Biu Kebana 2022 which was held at Lepo Badeng Apau Koyan May 31, Chukpai also reminded the Kenyah Badeng community to maintain their unity.
