KUCHING: Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon recently paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at his office in Putrajaya.

Chukpai was accompanied by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs and Special Duties) Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, community leaders and tribal chiefs from Murum and Hulu Rajang constituencies.

In a facebook post, Chukpai said the purpose of the visit was to present several applications and requests from the people of Murum to Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development.

“Among the requests is to upgrade the village road (former logging road) in the areas of Tubau-Jelalong, Ulu Sungai Belaga, Long Urun, Metalun, Tegulang, Sungai Linau and Sungai Asap which will benefit 60 settlements or longhouses in Murum.

“In addition, we also submit a request for special allocations to carry out rewiring works, installation of street lights and upgrading the drainage system (monsoon drains) and sewerage in 15 longhouses at Bakun Resettlement Scheme (BRS),” said Chukpai. He expressed hope that the requests of the people of Murum could be realised for the convenience and needs of the community.
