Rep thanks fed govt for SMK Balingian project

MUKAH:  Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo thanked the federal government for agreeing to continue with the proposed Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Balingian project which was reported to be in the tendering process currently.

The former Balingian assemblyman also thanked the Sarawak Education Department for its role and contribution in facilitating the development and progress of the proposed project.

“I thank the government for continuing with the construction of the school which was promised during the Balingian by-election in 2014,” he told New Sarawak Tribune via WhatsApp on Tuesday (June 30).

He was commenting on the proposed project which, according to Minister in the Prime’s Minster Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) and Mukah MP Hanifah Hajar Taib, was in the tendering process.

“It has been agreed upon and in the process of tendering,” she was quoted as saying in Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) online report on Monday (June 29).

Yussibnosh won the Balingian by-election in 2014 after incumbent and former chief minister Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who is now the Head of State, stepped down.

In the 2016 State election, Balingian was redelineated to become two constituencies, Balingian and Tellian.

Yussibnosh was fielded to stand in Tellian while new face Abdul Yakub Arbi contested in Balingian, and both, then Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates, won impressively.

The proposed SMK Balingian project was approved by then Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is now Prime Minister, during the Balingian by-election campaign in 2014. 

The proposed RM60 million residential schools aimed to cater to students from this sub-district and nearby areas.
