KUCHING: The people of Uma Belun as well as those from Sungai Asap Bakun Resettlement Scheme (BRS) will benefit with the completion of St Luke Church in Uma Belun.

Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon thanks the state government for the construction of the church.

“St Luke Church is one of the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects in 2018 carried out by the government. Congratulations to all parties who have successfully implemented this project, especially to JKR Kapit Division as the implementing agency.

“With the completion of this beautiful church, it would benefit locals with a better place of worship.

“Thanks to the state government for their concern about the need for places of worship for all religions in the state,” he said on Saturday (Jan 2).

Earlier, he officiated at the launch of the church in a ceremony which was also attended by a political secretary to the Chief Minister, Micheal Mujah Lihan; community leaders Tony Kulleh, Saging Bit, Katan Lawai, Simon Ambit and local councillors.

Chukpai expressed gratitude to the organisers for their efforts in making the ceremony a success and adhering to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“On this occasion, I would also like to wish a Happy New Year 2021 to all members of St Luke Uma Belun, residents of Uma Belun, Holy Cross Parish Sg Asap and all residents of Murum.

“Let us all pray that we will always be vigilant and always adhere to the Covid-19 pandemic prevention measures,” he said.
