SARIKEI: Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing has donated RM20,000 to the Sarikei Schools Sports Council (MSSB) in conjunction with the 47th Sarikei MSSB Athletics Championship yesterday.

A report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), quoted Ding as saying the tournament is a catalyst to hone the best talents among the students.

Ding pointed out that through the healthy competition, it would produce more athletes from Sarikei to compete in national and international level championships.

He also said that sports act as a platform to unite the community as well as complement the personality of the students in line with the aspirations of the national education philosophy.

Ding also called for co-curricular activities to be an important agenda in the school calendar to produce successful students in both academic and sports, as well as forming a good personality.
