KUCHING: The police in Sarawak and Sabah would have better facilities in police stations and quarters, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He made the announcement during an official work visit to the Sarawak Police Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) in Jalan Badruddin today.

According to him, he would meet with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Home Affairs to discuss the matter.

“I have been given the responsibility of overseeing the infrastructure improvements in Sarawak and Sabah in my capacity as deputy prime minister.

“This is why I am making this official visit (today) to look into the necessary information and understand the situation from the Sarawak Contingent Police,” he said.

He also pointed out that the facilities in police stations and quarters are in dire need of improvement, especially in rural areas where the buildings are in dilapidated condition.

“The situation there (in rural areas) that is desolate is not just towards the police stations but also the quarters,” he told reporters.

Fadillah ensured that he would give this priority while noting that the police had tried their utmost to serve the people.

The Petra Jaya MP also noted that the Sarawak IPK would undergo a revamp after receiving an allocation from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office through the federal government.

“I hope the plans to upgrade the facilities will elevate the morale of the police personnel,” he stressed.

Also present were Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata and Fadillah’s political secretary Datuk Hamzah Brahim.
