KUCHING: The public has been urged to report any shortages in the supply of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS)’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said PETROS should play its role to maintain a consistent supply of LPG and to prevent monopolisation and hoarding in the market.

“We hope to avoid any hoarding incidents within the state. The distribution of LPG gas involves a large number of people, including dealers and sub-dealers. We want to ensure no monopoly happens through and through. And of course, no hoarding and sabotage happen in the market,” he said in his speech during the Ministry’s Annual Plan 2024 launch at the Imperial Hotel here today (Jan 30).

Furthermore, Julaihi called on PETROS to prioritise the expansion of Sarawak’s gas distribution network, adhering to the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR).

“Therefore, PETROS as the Gas Aggregator needs to formulate effective directions and strategies for the acquisition, distribution, and supply of natural gas to enhance the utilisation of local natural gas to the target level, in line with the SGR. This includes how much we can allocate for the consumers and most importantly, to generate power,” he added.
