KUCHING: Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Jinep have donated three chainsaws to the Civil Defence Force and Bau Fire and Rescue Station.

The defence force and firefighters used the tools to cut trees which fell during a thunderstorm late Monday evening.

Bau Fire Station chief Tawang Lingem thanked both assemblymen for their donations.

“We cut down fallen trees from night until morning but after that, the chainsaws  overheated.

“Thank you to Miro and Henry Jinep for making it easier for us to do our job well for the community,” he said.

Tawang said the fallen trees were in Singai, Jagoi, Krokong and Serembu.

Meanwhile, Bau District Officer Anielia Siam said immediate actions were taken to evacuate residents of several houses affected by the thunderstorm last Monday.

She said the incident also had caused power outages in several areas.

“Trees which fell on power lines caused power interruptions and disrupted traffic flows in some areas in Singai, Bau,”  Anielia told reporters after the closing ceremony of the third series of Bau-district level State Community Policing programme on Tuesday (Oct 27).
