KUCHING: A woman, who is suffering from breast cancer, has received some financial aid from two elected people’s representatives.

Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii together with Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong visited the woman at her home here yesterday (June 10).

Dr Yii said the woman was diagnosed with breast cancer during the movement control order period and she is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

“She and her husband have a daughter who is still studying. Previously, the couple ran a kolo mee stall in a hawker centre.

“Since she now needs to go for chemotherapy, she mainly has to rest and concentrate on recuperating at home. Thus, she has to rely on her husband to run their stall alone.”

Dr Yii said he and Yong visited the family as soon as they found out about their predicament to better understand their situation and find the best ways to help them.

“We may have limited resources but we will try our best to lend a helping hand to the underprivileged and help them get through life’s challenges,” he assured.

On a separate occasion, Dr Yii also met with a few constituents who are dialysis patients.
“Many shared that they had to wait a long time to apply for a place to do dialysis whether in a government hospital or a dialysis centre run by non-governmental organisations.

“As such, many have no choice but to go to private hospitals first, which incurs very high cost and puts a financial strain on their family.

“So, we also contributed some financial aid to these patients to hopefully help them with their medical and daily expenses.”
