BINTANGOR: A rescue contractor will be appointed to continue the construction of the Sungai Sian Bintangor Water Treatment Plant which has been stalled for a year.

In a report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the project should be completed on April 15, 2022 within 15 months however the progress of the project has only reached 48 per cent so far.

“It should have been completed on April 15, 2022. Now it is already 2023, which means the project has been delayed for almost a year.

“That’s only 48 per cent progress. We can’t wait for a contractor who can’t afford to complete this project,” he said this during a working visit to the treatment plant here today.

Julaihi also urged the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to take action against any contractor who failed to complete the project based on the timeframe.

In another development, he said the repairing works for submarine pipe across the Sungai Sian Bintangor has started and the time frame for the appointed contractor to repair the broken pipe is four months and expected to be completed before June.
