Researcher, finalist for Swinburne’s 2022 Alumni Impact Award

KUCHING: Researcher Dr Muhammad Khusairy Bakri has been selected as a finalist for Swinburne’s 2022 Alumni Impact Awards for the Innovative Planet Impact Award (IPIA). His nomination was submitted by someone very proud of his achievements, according to Swinburne Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Pascale G. Quester.

“I am very pleased to announce that you have been selected as a finalist for Swinburne’s 2022 Alumni Impact Awards for the Innovative Planet Impact Award.

“This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the significant impact you have made in the community and I offer my warmest congratulations to you,” he added in a letter sent via email to Muhammad on his nomination.

The Alumni Impact Awards ceremony will be held in Melbourne, Australia on Oct 13. Muhammad is a Lead Research and Development for Association of Professional Technicians and Technologists (APTT) Sarawak and Postdoctoral Research Associate for Washington State University (WSU), Pullman, Washington, USA.

He is currently doing research on composite material under Composite Materials and Engineering Center, WSU.

Quester said the university looked forward to announcing the winners of each category at the event and expressed hope that Muhammed would be able to attend it.

“Our Alumni Engagement Team will be in touch shortly to confirm acceptance of this nomination and to discuss next steps. We hope that you are as excited as we are for your nomination, and we cannot wait to share your story with our Swinburne community over the coming months.”

Swinburne ‘s Alumni Impact Awards acknowledge exceptional alumni from around the world who had achieved success and made a significant impact in their community and professional field.

Award recipients are a testament to Swinburne’s vision of bringing people and technology together to build a better world, and an inspiration to fellow alumni, students and the wider Swinburne community.

The award is divided into three categories. Aside from IPIA, two others are The George and Ethel Swinburne Social Impact Award (GESSI) and Technology Innovation Impact Award TIIA).

The GESSI is awarded to a Swinburne alum who has demonstrated Swinburne’s passion of providing opportunities for all, irrespective of wealth, privilege, age, gender or race, making a real difference to the world we live in.

IPIA is awarded to Swinburne alum whose exceptional endeavour has resulted in significant impact in local or global environmental sustainability.

TIIA, on the other hand, is awarded to an alum whose exceptional endeavour has resulted in significant impact through technology and entrepreneurial innovation, demonstrating Swinburne’s vision of bringing people and technology together to build a better world.
