SIBU: Residents of Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce Lane 52d3 here have expressed their gratitude to Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) for solving the problems caused by flash floods.
However, they highlighted that the workmanship and finishing repair and maintenance work on the road were far from ideal.
Although the road was raised early this year, there were already many potholes, especially in areas near the driveways of houses.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection here on Saturday, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong branch chairman, Wong Ching Yong said Cr Ting Hua Sing, who is the SMC’s standing committee chairman of Works and Traffic, had requested the engineering technician to inform the contractor to solve the problem as soon as possible.
This followed an inspection by Wong together with Ting and two other councillors, Thomas Tiong and Jenny Ting, on the repair and maintenance work done by the council.
According to Wong, although it is a new residential area, the residents have been facing the problem of flash floods after a heavy downfall.
“In Sept last year, our branch organised a meet-the-people session there and the residents requested help in solving the problem. The request was promptly relayed to SMC.
“In January this year, SMC started to raise the road and the flash flood problem was solved.
“However, during the road inspection (on Saturday), the residents highlighted to the SMC’s councillors that the workmanship and finishing repair and maintenance work were far from ideal,” he said.
