Kampung Long Bemang in Ulu Baram is inundated.

MIRI: Heavy rains over the weekend pounded several areas in Ulu Baram.

For instance, in Kampung Long Bemang, the water level rose to three feet high today (Aug 25), affecting 530 villagers residing at the longhouse.

Last week, the water level was recorded at two feet high following excessive rainfalls for the past few days which  caused the Baram River to overflow and inundate the village which was located close to the riverbank.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone Six chief, Supt Law Poh Kiong said despite the rising flood water, there was no evacuation of villagers at the moment.

“However, villagers are on standby for any eventualities,” he said.

Kampung Long Bemang, the longest longhouse in the Northen Region, comprises four blocks, namely, Haleluyah, Hosana, Maranata and Calvary.
