MIRI: Residents have been reminded to reduce mass movement and stay at home following the rising number of Covid-19 positive cases lately.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin reiterated that during this Hari Raya celebration, inter-district travels were not allowed, except for those with emergency reasons and essential services.

“Please stay put at your respective homes and don’t go out unless necessary,” Lee, who is Minister-in-charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee, said after chairing a meeting with various relevant agencies via Zoom application on Wednesday.

On another note, Lee revealed that he was informed of some parents bringing their children to public places and shopping malls without giving them face masks to wear.

“Parents must stay vigilant, avoid bringing your children to crowded places if not necessary … it’s for their own safety,” he said.

Following the recent announcement on the implementation of enhanced movement control order (EMCO) by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Lee said shopping malls were only permitted to operate with 50 percent of customers’ capacity.

In this regard, Lee requested Miri City Council (MCC), Subis District Council and Marudi District Council to take note of the 50 percent capacity of customers allowed to enter shopping malls or shops in their respective areas.

He reiterated that any recreational or sports activities involving large groups in public parks or beaches were not permitted.

Also present at the zoom meeting were MDDMC chairman Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf, Miri Divisional Health Officer Dr P. Raviwharmman, Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong Siew Yu and divisional head of agencies and departments.
