KUCHING: The unity government has been reminded to resolve matters on Sarawak’s demands in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report, Sarawak Constitution and Federal Constitution.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud hoped the federal government will continue to implement development projects in Sarawak to improve the quality of health and education services, and develop basic infrastructure.

“In addition, the federal government is to look after Sarawak’s welfare and improve the level of security, especially along the border areas,” he said in his opening speech at the first meeting of the second session of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

Abdul Taib also expressed gratitude that the country’s politics is in a stable state.

“I also want to congratulate the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his wisdom in resolving Malaysia’s political crisis,” he said.

The appointment of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he said, was carried out in an orderly and peaceful manner which had led to the formation of the unity government, he said.

“I am confident that the unity government led by Anwar can develop the country to greater heights.”

The Head of State noted that with the support of the Sarawak government, the unity government was able to be formed.

“God willing, a stable government can definitely bring prosperity to the people,” he said.

At the same time, he said he is confident that the close relationship between the Sarawak and the federal governments will continue to benefit the people.

On another note, he said Sarawak will be celebrating its 60th anniversary of Sarawak independence.

“The theme for the celebration is ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’ and suits well for the celebration. For 60 years, we have achieved many successes in terms of economy, politics and society.

“Let us all celebrate the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s independence to appreciate the contribution of Sarawak’s freedom fighters. Likewise the contribution of the leaders who have brought the stability and development we enjoy now,” he said.
