KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chief whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said he respected Datuk Dr Jerip Susil’s decision to quit Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) with immediate effect.

“That is his choice and we cannot do anything to decide for him.

“At the same time, we also have no right to stop him from making the decision,” he said when asked to comment yesterday.

Dr Jerip announced his decision to quit PSB with immediate effect through a press release, dated July 10, which was released yesterday.

His decision caught everyone by surprise.

Fadillah, however, expressed gratitude to Dr Jerip for giving his full trust and confidence to GPS and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in bringing greater development and progress to the state and its people.

PSB is a splinter party of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP). Formerly named United People’s Party (UPP), it was set up after a protracted leadership crisis in SUPP.

Dr Jerip in announcing his decision to quit PSB, expressed confidence that only GPS under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has the vision, commitment and programmes to bring even better development and progress to rural constituencies such as Mambong.
