Chan delivers his speech.

SIBU: The challenge of the Madani concept lies in how we can implement it across our structures, policies, regulations, and educational system, Chan Ming Kai said.

The political secretary to the Prime Minister said that we need to find ways to institutionalise and incorporate the concept of Madani so that the government can support it and sustain and promote diversity in language and religion.

“This is the challenge we face. I hope to receive support from all of you in terms of embracing this concept. I am confident that Sabah and Sarawak, with their emphasis on harmony, multiple religions, and cultural diversity, can provide strong support and serve as an excellent example for Malaysia,” he said.

He said this in his speech while representing the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Majlis Pra Gawai 2023, organised by the Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (SADIA) at Complex Islam here last night (May 27).

According to Chan, the concept actually includes most aspects, but in order to understand its real meaning, he focused on two aspects that he finds impressive in Sarawak.

Chan (third right) officiates at the event.

“It is the multi-racial and multi-religious society as well as the harmonious atmosphere, which are often lacking in Peninsular Malaysia.

“Respect should not be forced, but it should come from sincerity and honesty, which means respecting others does not require us to blindly follow everything that comes from the majority or those in power.

“We should respect the differences, understand them, celebrate diversity, and embrace various perspectives. This is crucial for a civil society and the concept of a harmonious Malaysia, especially in Sabah and Sarawak, where we see a shining example of harmony,” he said.

Additionally, Chan stressed the importance of trust within a diverse society where differences in language, religion, and culture exist.

“We may not understand everything about our friends’ religions and languages, but it is important to have trust. Even if someone says something that we don’t understand, we should not assume that they are saying anything negative about us.

“Trust must be present for us to live in harmony. Without trust, problems may arise. Therefore, trust must be clear and established. If we consider these aspects of respect and trust, the concept of Madani can be realised,” he said.

During the event, Chan, on behalf of Anwar, announced an allocation of RM20,000 to SADIA for them to carry out their activities.
