KUCHING: A restaurateur in the Lubuk Antu district suffered losses of RM8,480 after falling victim to a parcel scam involving a Facebook acquaintance recently.

Sarawak Commercial CID chief Supt Mustafa Kamal Ghani Abdullah said the 32-year-old victim was acquainted with a Dutchman who was working in the United Kingdom.

‘’During the friendship, they often communicated through Facebook Messenger and telephone. Then the suspect told the victim that he had sent him a present.

‘’On Feb 27, the victim was contacted by a woman, purportedly from a courier company, telling him to send the processing money for the delivery of the item. The victim banked in money three times into the suspect’s account,’’ he said in a statement here today.

Mustafa said that the victim then lodged a police report when he realised that he had been cheated after he felt pressured into sending the so called processing money. – Bernama
