KUCHING: Parents need to set an example for children by always appreciating the services of teachers.

“That culture should be restored, if a child complains about being reprimanded by the teacher, we as parents should inquire as to why they were scolded.

“What I don’t want to see is a culture where when the teacher scolds our child, we act carelessly by scolding them back,” said Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

He made these remarks at the Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) Memorial Service at Serapi Hotel here on Saturday (Oct 29).

Fazzrudin hailed the efforts of teachers in educating children as a great sacrifice that contributes to the development of the country.

“If we want to see the future of the country in the next 20 or 50 years, look at the education system, the resources used in education and the teachers who are responsible for teaching our children,” he said.

Towards this end he said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s dream of creating a free education system for the children of Sarawak was evidence of the importance of education to the state.
