MUKAH: Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo advised residents of Mukah District to cage their pets in their homes to avoid the spread of rabies.

He said pets such as dogs and cats should not be released and roaming around for the fear of rabies infection which could eventually leads to a tragic ending.

“Please lock your dogs and cats in your respective homes,” he said.

Mukah and Balingian were recently announced rabies-infected areas apart from some areas in Sarawak.

In addition, Yussibnosh also advised Mukah residents not to approach stray animals especially dogs and cats, for fear of infection.

Free roaming dogs susceptible to catching rabies.

“In case of bites or scratches, immediate action should be taken by going to the nearest clinic or hospital,” he added.

Dog owners are also advised to get vaccine injections for their pet dogs to prevent rabies infections.

He said the Veterinary Department provided a free injection to pet dogs around Mukah.

The rabies outbreak is still spreading in Sarawak despite several drastic steps taken by the state government since its first appearance in 2017.
