MATU: The RM65 million 16-km road construction project from Passin to Matu will be retendered.

Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad said in a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) that the project had to be retendered due to the failure of the contractor to commence the project.

“The re-implementation of the project will take about 30 months from now. It was handed over to the site in early March 2020.

“However, due to the implementation of the movement control order (MCO), this project was somewhat disrupted and now even though the project can continue, we find that it still has problems in terms of the performance of the implementing contractor.

“That is why I brought the Public Works Department (PWD) with us today to explain to the residents about the status of the the project,” he said during the Majlis Pemimpin Bersama Masyarakat dan Majlis Ngiling Bidai Tahun 2022 for Sungai Passin area recently.

On the ongoing electricity supply project in the area worth RM6.2 million, Safiee said it was expected to be completed in September 2023.

“The project will not only benefit the longhouses there, but also schools and clinics,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said the clean water supply project in the area had been included in the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) where it would be connected from Jemoreng to Matu according to the road alignment now being implemented.

At the same ceremony, Safiee handed over grant cheques to seven longhouse Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs), Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) and churches amounting to RM57,000.
