KUCHING: The state government has roped in four retired Health Department directors to help Sarawak fight the Covid-19 outbreak.

They are Datuk Dr Yao Sik Chi, Datuk Dr Andrew Kiyu Dawie, Datuk Dr Zulkifli Jantan and Dr Jamilah Hashim who have served the state in the past.

“Sarawak needs their experiences in handling infectious diseases to contain the pandemic,” said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said the quartet had served the state during the outbreaks of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and Nipah virus (NiV).

Pointing out that ‘it was a time of war’ in Sarawak, he thanked the former doctors for coming out of retirement and lending their help to the state.

“To face the biggest medical crisis that it has ever encountered, Sarawak will need us and fellow Sarawakians to put our cool heads and warm compassionate hearts together.

“Thank you very much for coming out of retirement and for getting together every day to help Sarawak in time of need.

“An example and inspiration to every Sarawakian. Let us fight Covid-19 together,” he wrote in his Facebook posting on Saturday.
