BINTULU: Sarawakians studying in China who want to return to Sarawak following the coronavirus outbreak would be tested and quarantined inside an isolated building, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari disclosed this yesterday when making his Chinese New Year rounds here.
Since the outbreak, Sarawak has received evacuation requests from its students studying in China.
“We have identified a building which can be used to quarantine these students upon their return,” Abang Johari said.
He said that Sarawak government is monitoring the situation very closely to ensure that the virus does not spread here.
“We allow our Sarawakians students studying in China to return home, but first we would quarantine them upon arrival as a precautionary measure,” he said.
The decision to allow Sarawakian students to return home was made yesterday morning with the State Disaster Management committee chaired by Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Earlier, Abang Johari started his Chinese New Year rounds here attending Progressive Democratic Party’s (PDP) open house at Bintulu Civic Centre before proceeding to visiting six other dignitaries’ residences.
