SIBU: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi has proposed for a revamp of the state’s timber policy.

Nanta who is also Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs commented that the current policy only benefited the rich.

He made the suggestion at the PBB Central Zone convention held at Kingwood Hotel on Saturday.

Nanta hoped that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg would come up with a new timber policy that would benefit the ordinary people and not only rich timber operators.

About 1,000 delegates from 25 PBB branches in the central zone converged here for the mini convention on Saturday.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and in compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), the PBB Convention this time had to broken down into four zones, with the first one held in Miri, followed by Betong, Sibu and finally in Kuching on October 25.
