KUCHING: Close collaborations between government departments, agencies and industry players are needed to steer the recovery of the tourism industry.

Telang Usan assemblyman and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chairman Dennis Ngau said the state government was keen on rejuvenating the industry.

“I met with associations, bodies, federal and state departments and agencies related to the Sarawak tourism industry.

“This meeting was called to discuss matters related to STB and its efforts in working with various bodies to promote responsible tourism in Sarawak.

“The whole purpose of this is to make the tourism industry in Sarawak sustainable and attractive,” he said in a Facebook post.

Among the departments and agencies involved in the meeting were Marine Department, Sarawak Rivers Board, Association of Sarawak Inbound Agencies (Asia) and Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

Also present were representatives from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), Malaysian Travels and Tours Association (Matta) and Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF).

“I am pleased that all the relevant tourism players, bodies and government departments took their time to attend the meeting,” he said.

Dennis said it was proposed that further meetings, workshops and lab sessions be organised.
