Rider dies after bike crashes into tree

KUCHING: A motorcyclist was killed while his pillion rider was injured after their motorcycle skidded and crashed into a tree along Jalan Stutong Baru early yesterday morning.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said both victims were heading towards Airport Road when the collision happened at around 4.30am.

“The deceased identified as Suzie Jemat, 41, from Kampung Tambirat Ulu suffered injuries to his head and died at the scene while his 25-year-old pillion rider from Kampung Sambir suffered injuries to his left leg.

Suzie, a fisherman, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His body was brought to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) mortuary for further action.

The injured victim was also taken to the hospital for further treatment.

He added that the weather condition was drizzling and the road surface was wet.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
