SERIAN: Deputy President of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Human Resources Minister, Dato Sri Richard Riot intends to defend the Serian parliamentary seat in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).

Riot who is Serian MP since 1990 made his intention known because he is still fit to continue to carry out the responsibilities as a representative of the people in Serian for at least another term.

“I have decided to contest again and I think I am still fit to contest at least for another term and I am ready,” he said after launching the Karnival Kerjaya and Pelepasan Konvoi Jelajah Kerjaya Kenyalang 2017organised by the Department of Labour at the Community Park Serian here, yesterday.

When asked to comment on the possibility of the 14th General Election (GE14) to be held before 2018, Riot said that his election operation room is ready
even if GE14 were to be held tomorrow.

He however did not want to comment on SUPP’s election preparations and prefer to let the party’s leadership dealt with the matter.

“I leave it to the party and the president to answer that question, because I’m not the president of SUPP but only the deputy president, but what I can say is that I want to contest again and I am ready if the election were to be held tomorrow,” he said.

Riot won the Serian seat as an independent candidate in the 1990 general election but later joined SUPP.
