RM1.16 million in corporate tithe

KUCHING: Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) has received corporate zakat or tithe amounting to RM1.16 million for the financial year 2021 from Maybank Islamic Berhad (Maybank Islamic).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the handing over of the corporate zakat mock cheque from Maybank Islamic to TBS at the Premier’s Office, Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday.

The corporate zakat totalling RM1.16 million to TBS is a part of the Maybank Islamic’s total corporate zakat of RM8.94 million for the financial year 2021, which has already been distributed to all state religious councils nationwide.

Representing Maybank Islamic was its Maybank Group president and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli while Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) president Datuk Misnu Taha received it on behalf of TBS.

Also present were Maybank Islamic CEO Datuk Mohamad Rafique Merican and Baitulmal Sarawak deputy general manager Bolhassan Iskandar Taibi.

Earlier, Abang Johari also received a courtesy call from Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) led by its CEO Datuk Norhalim Yunus with the main agenda of forging an opportunity to collaborate with Sarawak in terms of technology investment and various technology development matters.

Accompanying MTDC delegates in this meeting were Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) CEO Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani and SMA general manager Dr Zaidi Abdul Razak.
