MIRI: The Sarawak government has allocated RM1.5 billion for Highland Development Authority (HDA) to expedite the infrastructures projects in the highland areas of Miri Division.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embah said with more connectivity such as roads as well as other amenities in the highland areas, the state government planned to open up more agricultural activities that could generate more incomes.
“To-date we have set aside a sum of RM345.9 million for four road and one bridge projects, some have been tendered out while others are still at the designing stages, we are also spending RM20 million on water supply projects for Long Silat and Long Jekitan,” he said at the meet-the-people session at Kampung Long Jeeh, Baram here yesterday.
Uggah, who is Agricultural Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development Minister, said for the agricultural projects, one of the main focus would be food crop cultivation and to ensure the success of the project it would involve participation of the private sectors.
“We will help the smallholders and we will bring in large companies as well to plant crops like durian, banana, coffee, pineapple and others for export,” he added. – Bernama
