KUCHING: The Federal Government has allocated RM1 million to the BERNAMA Excellence Training Centre.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the funds were given for courses and training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology for media practitioners.

In addition, Anwar announced another RM1 million allocation for the Tabung Kasih@Hawana initiative next year.

“This allocation is to assist veterans and media practitioners who are struggling with hardships and illnesses,” he said when officiating at Majlis Kemuncak Hari Wartawan Nasional (HAWANA) 2024 at the Waterfront Hotel on today.

Addressing another issue, Anwar highlighted the increased challenges faced by contemporary journalists compared to their predecessors.

“Veteran journalists have made significant contributions, the impact of which is undeniable. However, today’s media professionals face the challenge of elevating dignity and human values,” he said.

He also stressed the media needed to adhere to ethical standards and engaging with the digital and AI world.

“The challenge they face… I will leave it to the media professionals to find solutions, as I am not an expert in the media field,” he added.
