RM1 million for mosque, surau repairs

KUCHING: A total of RM1.05 million has been allocated for repair work on mosques and surau in Lundu district.

Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu said the allocation was given to four mosques and nine surau by the state government through Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak.

“We are fortunate that we have been given the allocation to renovate the mosques and surau in the district.

“We should put it to good use by ensuring that the facilities at the buildings provide comfort for congregants,” she said after presenting the repair projects for Masjid An-Nur Kampung Stunggang Melayu Lama and Masjid Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Satem on Tuesday.

Besides the two mosques, two others which had benefitted from the allocation were Masjid Daerah Kecil Sematan and Masjid Kampung Sampadi.

The nine surau are Surau Kampung Trusan Jaya, Surau Kampung Siru Melayu, Surau Sebat Lama, Surau Kampung Sebat Baru, Surau Kampung Serayan Hilir, Surau Kampung Tanah Hitam, Surau SMK Lundu, Surau SMK Sematan and Surau SMK Senibong.

Masjid An-Nur has its toilets and ablution room upgraded by the Lundu district Public Works Department with an allocation of RM100,000.

Meanwhile, Masjid Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Satem has its roof and ceiling repaired and upgraded with RM100,000.

Also present were Lundu district assistant engineer Khalid A Karim and mosque committee members.
