RM100 each for stranded students

Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi

KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) students who are already on campus are given RM100 each to lighten their burden.

Vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said besides the RM100, Unimas will offer exemption of accommodation fees for October to all its campus students.

“The university took the initiative to channel Unimas Prihatin Aid of about RM100 per student and exemption of accommodation fees for October 2020 to all pre-university, pre-graduate and graduate students that are now on campus.

“Students are also provided flexibility in the payment of tuition fees this semester. All these measures are intended to lighten the burden of the students amid the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said in a statement recently.

Echoing the recent Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) decision to quarantine all arrivals from Peninsular Malaysia, Kadim said that non-Sarawakians will bear the cost of quarantine and PCR tests.

“For Sarawakians, the cost of quarantine and PCR tests will be borne by the state government,” he said.

Kadim reiterated that SMDC will also disallow entry of foreigners and citizens from Sabah and Labuan from Oct 4 until Oct 18.

“Sarawakians in Sabah and Labuan who wish to return have to apply through the ‘Enter Sarawak’ application and fill in their e-Health Declaration Form. They will be quarantined for 14 days according to the SDMC decision on Oct 1,” he said.

He also urged students to contact the Centre for Student Services at 082-581921/082-581857/082-581858 to enquire on matters pertaining to the movement back into campus.

Questions regarding teaching and learning methods can be channelled to the respective faculties, he said.
