MERADONG: A total of RM100,000 has been allocated to upgrade the infrastructure of SJKC Hua Nam, Sungai Petai here under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for Meradong constituency.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Meradong incumbent Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing officiated at the symbolic handover ceremony of the project site on Tuesday (Nov 16).

He said the RTP project had been approved by the Sarawak government to assist in the development and upgrading of school infrastructure in the rural areas.

He expressed his appreciation to the Meradong and Julau District Council (MJDC) for always monitoring and ensuring that the RTP project is implemented according to the proposed specifications.

Earlier on Monday (Nov 15) in a simple ceremony held at MJDC, Ding also officiated at the symbolic handover ceremony of E-Khas grants totalling RM169,000 to 28 associations, schools, churches, and government departments in Meradong.

The E-Khas contribution is to assist these recipients in the organisation of annual activities or programmes, especially in facing this Covid-19 pandemic.

He hoped that the recipients involved would take full advantage of the E-Khas grants to upgrade the infrastructure of their premises.

Also on Monday, Ding officiated at the project site handover ceremony for the upgrading of Jalan Utama Hock Lai, Sg Meradong here.

The project, which is under RTP allocation at a cost of RM50,000, will be under the supervision of Public Works Department Sarikei Division to ensure that the project is in accordance with the proposed implementation components.

He added that the implementation of the RTP project will be carried out in stages according to the funds that had been approved by the state government each year.

“The implementation of RTP projects will be continuous if it gets support from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak government to ensure the implementation of various development and community development projects in rural areas every year.”

Meanwhile, the residents of Jalan Utama Hock Lai were indeed very glad and thankful to the state government for approving the implementation of the RTP project to upgrade their main road so that during the year end, the main road would no longer be flooded by high tide.
