MATU: The Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM130 million for the construction of a road from Igan to Sibu.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the project will provide connectivity and shorten travel for those from Matu to Sibu.

“Besides that, the road will not only benefit the surrounding area but also Bawang Assan and Bruit, Bintangor.

“When we saw the positive impacts from the road project, we requested the Public Works Department (PWD) to provide us a cost estimation.

“They gave us an estimation of RM130 million, and because it will give a great impact to our people, we approved the RM130 million,” he said during the closing of Pesta Matu 2022 here on Wednesday (June 8).

He said the construction of this road is expected to be completed in three years.

“We can travel to Sibu, to Kapit and also to Kuching because this road will also connect to the coastal road through Jambatan Igan.
