RM1,400 lost in robbery, burglary

KUCHING: A cashier said he was forced to open the cash register box on Tuesday morning when an armed robber came to him armed with a parang.

The victim from Kampung Pinang Jawa aged 17 was working in a 24-hour convenient store when at about 5 am, a man came in on a pretext of buying a reload card. Then the robber came in and threatened him with the parang.

Worried of his life, the victim passed him the cash of RM89. The man who pretended to buy the reload card was an accomplice and the two took away 39 cartons of different cigarette brands.

The total loss was over RM700. A police report has been lodged and police are investigating.

In another case, a store keeper said his house at Bandar Baru Semariang was broken into on Wednesday morning at about 5 am.

He said thieves cut off his fence in front of the house and broke into his house. They took off with two fans, cash, gas cylinder, oven and other electrical applicances.

The store keeper estimated his losses at about RM700.
