Bank helps lessen burden of parents

KUCHING: Bank Rakyat yesterday handed over a donation of about RM140,000 to the Department of Education Sarawak.

The money from Bank Rakyat Foundation (YBR) will be given to 14 Bank Rakyat branches throughout Sarawak and each branch will receive RM10,000 to be given to 100 students through their i-Nuri accounts.

The presentation ceremony took place at Hilton Hotel here.

The YBR programme is part of Bank Rakyat’s CSR initiative, a continuation from ‘Bantuan Persekolahan’ programme held in every state in the country.

Through this initiative, Bank Rakyat has donated about RM1.47 million to 14,700 qualified and selected students in the country through their ‘Akaun Simpanan-i Nuri’.

Head of Marketing and Communication, Bank Rakyat, Nizam Sani said that the programme was in line with the government’s ‘Wawasan Kemakmuran Bersama’ (WKB) 2030 as well as ‘Matlamat Pembangunan Lestari’ and ‘Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu’ which were aimed at providing quality education.

“I hope the donation will lessen the burden of parents among the B40 in terms of expenses for their children’s school supplies for next year’s session.

“The organisation also has collaborated with the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development (MED) in the ‘Jom Kembali ke Sekolah’ programme to help almost 400 students around the country with donations of school supplies such as a set of school uniforms, socks, school bags and school shoes for each student,” he said during his speech.

Nizam added that Bank Rakyat would be responsible to open the savings account called ‘i-Naluri’ for the selected students.

“The students will receive RM100 per person of the donation fund,” he told a press conference after the handing over ceremony.

Bank Rakyat Foundation general manager Norashikin Shaharudin explained that the Department of Education would give the names and details of the qualified students through the data called ‘Data e-Kasih’.

“Those selected to receive the donations will be from both primary and secondary schools,” she said during the press conference.
