KUCHING: A total of RM150,000 was allocated to the Limbang Area Fishermen Association (PNK)to conduct repairs at the site of their newly relocated office building.
Agriculture Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the PNK wrote to him to request for funding to repair their office space which was a former government rest house building.
“At first, I approved RM50,000 but after calculating all the requirements that are still insufficient, I have added RM100,000 so the total is RM150,000 and I will hand over the cheque later today.
“I suggested that we reduce the cost of the repair work and for it to be done through gotong-royong so that the allocation can be used fully for that purpose,” he said.
At the same time, the Bukit Kota assemblyman also lauded the decision of the Limbang PNK to relocate their office and fish collection and distribution centre (CCDC).
He said the decision was correct and profitable as the new location has a strategic position, being located in an urban area and within easy reach.
“However, PNK will still rent the place but at a cheaper rate and because it has not been used for a long time, there has been vandalism and needs to be repaired and renovated.
“The selection of the place as PNK’s new office and retail space is apt because it is located in an urban area and is easily accessible.
“PNK is fortunate to get the place as a result of our planning and efforts together,” he said when speaking at a presentation of assistance from PNK Limbang to asnaf recipients recently.
Dr Abdul Rahman said for the CCDC, the repair work will be funded by the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) with an allocation of RM100,000.
