RM169 mln for upgrading of water supply projects in Lawas

KUCHING: 360 members of  Persatuan Anak Jati Lawas joined Deputy Chief Minister, who is also Minister of Urban Development & Natural  Resources and  Minister of Industrial  Development and Entrepreneurship, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at a restaurant in Metro City, Matang Jaya.

The event was also attended by Sarawak State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar,  Datu Sanib Said, General Manager of Amanah Khairat Melayu Sarawak, En. Salim Agas, Chairman of Persatuan Anak Jati Lawas, Counselor Jinal bin Pengiran Hj. Java.

In his speech, Awang Tengah advised members of the Association who intend to go back to celebrate their Hari Raya in Lawas to drive carefully and courteously while passing parts of the Pan Borneo Highway which is in the process of construction.

On Lawas, Awang Tengah said he would hold a Northern Territory Development Board meeting in the near future to draw up a development plan in the Northern Territory. “The Board’s attention is focused on the development of basic infrastructure and basic facilities,” he explained.

He hoped that intellectuals and professionals from Lawas could contribute ideas to the development efforts. The board should take into account aspects of economic development, agriculture, education, religion, social, cultural, among others, he added.

Regarding water supply, he said the State Government gave priority to the upgrading of water supply facilities. He wants the project to upgrade the water supply facility to be completed within two years for the comfort of the people of Lawas. He said the RM169 million allocation announced by Chief Minister during the Groundbreaking ceremony for Centexs recently was for the purpose of upgrading of water supply projects in Lawas district.

Awang Tengah also touched on the setting up of Centexs is to offer suitable skills training to the people so that they can easily land skilled jobs or become successful entrepreneurs in the future.

Awang Tengah calls on members of the Association and the people to remain united for harmony and thus ensure the smooth implementation of the planned development projects by the Government.

At the event, Awang Tengah also handed over cash and Hari Raya gifts to the children of members of the Association.
