LUNDU: The water supply problem in Tanjung Datu is expected to be solved after the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg’s approval of a total of RM17 million allocations to curb the problem.

Tanjong Datu State Assemblyman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu said the allocation was announced by the Chief Minister on March 25 during the N3 Tanjung Datu and N8 Satok Youth Motorcycle Convoy Programme to Pugu Beach, here.

According to her, from the allocation, the Sampadi area requires RM 600,000 for the upgrading of tubewell while RM 16.4 million is meant to upgrade the pipeline in Sematan.

Jamilah also pointed out that an allocation of RM34,500 was given to 115 households in the Sampadi area for the construction of the mini tubewell.

“I hope the people in Tanjung Datu are not easily affected by social media tricks that are now hovering over the people’s minds that water issues are not taken care of by agencies such as the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), which is struggling to deal with water problems,” she said.

Jamilah said this when contacted by reporters after attending the Lundu District Water Supply Meeting chaired by the Kuching Division Resident.

Jamilah also informed that as many as 20 community water tanks were also despatched to affected areas through the special allocation that she requested from the state government.

At the same time, Jamilah also contributed 20 community water tanks and distributed a large amount of drinking water to the affected areas.

“The water delivery to be filled into the community tank is one of the measures taken to address the problem,” she explained.

To overcome the water problem, Jamilah also applied to Lundu Social Welfare Department to deliver drinking water to the Kangka area which is now affected by water problems.
